New to Dance? Here's What to Expect in Your First Class

Starting something new can feel a little scary – especially if you’ve never danced before or are joining a new school. But don’t worry, you’re not alone, and we’re here to make sure your first dance class is a positive and exciting experience.

At Sarah Louise Ashworth School of Dance, we love welcoming new students, and September is the perfect time to start. Whether you’re a complete beginner or just looking for a new studio to call home, we’ve got a place for you.

So what can you expect when you come to class?

Friendly Faces

From the moment you walk in, you’ll be greeted by our team and made to feel part of the family. We know every dancer starts somewhere, and no one expects you to know all the steps on day one.

A Supportive Atmosphere

There’s no pressure to be perfect. We’re here to help you learn, build confidence, and most importantly – enjoy dancing. If you’re feeling nervous, that’s totally normal, and we’ll guide you through everything at your own pace.

A Bit of Everything

Depending on your age and the class you join, you might try ballet, tap, modern, or street. We keep things fun and varied so you can explore different styles and see what you enjoy the most.

Clear Structure

Classes follow a routine, which helps new dancers feel more comfortable. We’ll start with a warm-up, then move into technique, short routines, and cool down. You’ll pick it up in no time.

Real Progress

You won’t just learn steps – you’ll grow in confidence, coordination, and creativity. Many of our students start with a trial and stay for years because they love how they feel when they dance.

A Welcoming Community

Dance is about expression, but it’s also about connection. Our classes are filled with supportive students who cheer each other on, and many lifelong friendships have started in our studio.

If you’re thinking of booking a trial for September, we’d love to have you. Come along, give it a try, and see how it feels. You might just discover your new favourite thing.
